Dennis Gordon – My artistic pursuits have been with drawing, both pencil and pen and ink, pastel and watercolor. Experimenting with pan pastel and pen and ink combinations led to begin an exploration into combining woodcuts with background images created either with pan pastel, or with rolled on printmaking relief inks. Recent discovery of a local source for laser etching has led to a long, and far from finished learning path of image manipulation software and how to create an image that etches into wood in a way that allows for an exciting woodcut print. These woodcut images are often combined with pan pastel or relief inks to form the completed woodcut print. I see art as a way to express something, versus just represent something and feel that art should evoke some sort of emotion in the viewer. I am fascinated by even ordinary things like looking up at trees, or looking at shadows playing across the ground.
