Cornelis vanSpronsen – Born in the Netherlands in 1946 but also raised in Indonesia, France and the United States, I have been painting since I received my first set of oil paints when I was 12 years old. While I spent most of my working years as a graphic artist and designer here in the U.S. and operating my own design studio for 25 years, I have always been a painter first and foremost. I have been painting full time since 2013, participating in en plein air events, nationwide juried competitions and doing assorted commission work. Although I primarily paint landscapes, I also do portraits and urban scenes. My ongoing travels continue to be inspiration for much of my subject matter. I paint primarily in oils and acrylics, preferring oils for my plein air painting and acrylics for my studio painting. My style follows the Impressionist model, characterized by depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color and tending to loose brushwork.
