In celebration of Black History Month, the Ann Arbor Housing Commission invites you to journey through the heart of Ann Arbor’s West Side – a historically Black community whose stories of resilience, innovation, and unity shaped the city we know today.

Through this powerful documentary, A Letter To The West Side by Kameron Donald of Breyko, we pay tribute to the trailblazers and celebrate the vibrancy of the once-thriving Black local businesses and schools, and shed light on the systemic challenges that led to the loss of the neighborhood. Watch the trailer now!

More than a film, this is a testament to the strength of the people who built the West Side, and a platform to amplify the voices of those whose stories have gone untold. These stories continue to shape our city through the Dunbar Tower project, where a multi-generational Community Leadership Council of former and current Black residents of the neighborhood are working to create a space that honors the history of the West Side and provides affordable housing for low-income residents.

Join us at our screening at the Michigan Theater on Saturday, FEBRUARY 8TH, 2025 6:00PM as we take action to preserve history and spark vital conversation about the future of the community.

Admission is free, but seating is limited – RSVP online here to reserve your spot!
