An involved board of directors guides The Arts Alliance. They live, work or go to school throughout Washtenaw County. They are age, gender and culturally diverse and comprised of respected artists, creatives and community leaders representing the areas of business, education, government, tourism, NGOs, research and economic development.

The Arts Alliance (TAA) is committed to forever evolving and learning about diversity, equity and inclusion. It is committed to, forever evolving and learning about diversity, equity and inclusion. That includes leaning in to listen to how its community defines the intrinsic and aesthetic qualities of art and creativity be it by the cultural expert, the credentialed scholar, the journeyed or self-taught master and/or the astute consumer of the form.

Its stated recruitment goals are to seat a board that it reflects the breadth and depth of the population by assuring gender, age, cultural, socioeconomic and geographic diversity and the vast variety of artists, creative practitioners and creative profit, nonprofit and government entities in Washtenaw County.

By the numbers, the current board lives or works in five of the eight cities in Washtenaw County, four are between the ages of 25-35; one is between 36-45; two between 46-55; and two between 56-65. The board also consists of 70% women and 20% people of color. Additionally, the arts + creative industries are represented by professionals and volunteers holding degrees in voice, acting, dance/choreography, graphic and web design, historic preservation,  arts management, communication & marketing.

The Arts Alliance contracts Artrain, a arts management service organization to provide administrative, financial and project management services. This arrangement has resulted in a 50% savings in overhead costs. All revenue received to support The Arts Alliance’s work is used exclusively for their work at The Arts Alliance.

To guide human resource policies, practices and training, TAA’s board adopted the  Personnel Guidelines of its contracting agency, Artrain, who is the employer of record for the  professional staff.
